In the last 10 years of studying brand design and marketing strategies for creative people and holistic practitioners, I’ve learned one thing that has made all the difference.
Not color theory.
Not funnel strategy.
Not social media tactics.
One shift.
Make your client the hero.
What I Used to Get Wrong
In the beginning, I believed potential clients needed to hear about my credibility.
My education.
My certifications.
My modality.
My frameworks.
How I work.
Why I’m qualified.
I positioned myself as the one coming to rescue them.
And while credibility has its place, something subtle was happening underneath.
I was unintentionally placing myself at the center of the story.
And that robs people of something essential.
Their sense of agency.
Their self-efficacy.
Their role as the main character in their own lives.
The Messaging Shift That Changes Everything
When you shift your messaging so your client is the hero, everything changes.
Instead of:
“I help you by doing X, Y, Z because I’m trained in…”
It becomes:
“You’re navigating this. You want this. You’re capable of this. I’m here to guide you.”
You are not the hero.
You are the guide.
And when your messaging reflects that, something powerful happens.
People feel seen.
They feel capable.
They feel understood.
They feel like they can step forward.
That shift changed not only how I write offers.
It changed how I walk through life.
Because I genuinely want the people around me to feel like the hero of their own story.
And we all are.
Why This Matters So Much
The people in this community are offering something deeply valuable.
Healing.
Transformation.
Relief.
Clarity.
Support in life-changing moments.
When that work doesn’t land because messaging is unclear or unintentionally self-centered, it’s not just a marketing issue.
It’s a missed connection.
And sometimes, that connection could have made all the difference.
Not all of us have studied communication strategy, psychology, or brand messaging.
We’re good at what we’re good at.
And it’s heartbreaking when someone’s incredible gift doesn’t reach the people who need it simply because the messaging isn’t aligned.
Your work is too important to be missed because of wording.
A Simple Self-Audit
Take a few minutes and read your website, your bio, or your recent posts.
Ask yourself:
When my ideal client reads this, do they feel like the hero of their own journey?
Or do they feel like they’re reading about mine?
Does my messaging reinforce their strength, their desire, their capability to change?
Or does it subtly center me as the solution?
You can absolutely share your credibility.
But the spotlight belongs on them.
You are the trusted guide walking alongside.
If You Want to Go Deeper
If this concept resonates and you want to understand the psychology behind it more fully, I highly recommend StoryBrand 2.0.
It beautifully articulates why making the client the hero isn’t just good messaging — it’s good psychology.
And good psychology builds connection.
Something to Keep in Your Pocket
Your clients don’t need a rescuer.
They need a guide who sees their strength.
And when your messaging reflects that belief, something powerful happens.
Your work lands.
Your offers resonate.
And the right people recognize themselves in your words.
That’s the shift.
