Mom advice Monday
Motherhood doesn’t end when they grow up.
It just changes, and asks something new of you.
Mothering adults is one of the hardest and most tender seasons of all.
You will make all kinds of new mistakes here.
You will say the wrong thing.
You will hold back when you want to rush in.
You will step in when you should have waited.
And still, you can’t give up in this season either.
Connection often feels harder now.
There may be moments of distance, silence, or even rejection.
There are days when it feels like your feelings don’t matter anymore,
like all the years of work, worry, and sacrifice were for nothing.
They weren’t.
This season asks for a different kind of mothering:
• Trust instead of control
• Presence instead of protection
• Listening instead of fixing
• Loving without being needed in the same way
The work becomes quieter.
The reassurance less immediate.
The payoff less obvious.
But when you begin to learn the new ebb and flow of these relationships,
when you stop measuring closeness by constant access,
when you allow yourself to grieve what was and appreciate what is,
that’s when you realize something important.
This is also the season where you get to return to yourself.
Where your needs come back into focus.
Where your identity expands beyond caretaking.
Where love becomes mutual, not dependent.
If you have littles: you are building the foundation for this season right now.
If you have teens or grown children: you are doing brave, unseen work.
Motherhood is not about holding tightly forever.
It’s about raising humans who can stand, and still know where home is.
